Objective
In the transportation industry there is a continuous search for engineering steels and their processing that allow reducing the weight and production cost of automotive components. Additionally to the strength and toughness criteria, stringent fatigue requirements have to be satisfied since many components undergo cycling stressing during service. A novel steel design and processing approach to meet these demands will be developed on the ferrite morphology and the reduction/elimination of pearlite. Further, non-traditional microstructures containing acicular ferrite will be introduced.
