Objective
The aim of the project is to reduce the arc length in DC EAFs while keeping power levels constant by injecting molecular gases (preferably natural gas) or light oil through a hollow graphite electrode into the arc. This technique is expected to improve steel quality, productivity, consumptions (electrode, refractory, energy) and environmental pollution. A further benefit expected from arc length shortening is a cost reduction in the EAF operative costs.
