Objective
Previous research has shown that the risk of gas ignition by shearer picks can be reduced by lowering the speed of cutting and by water jets directed on to the hot groove made by the pick. This has operational disadvantages. The project examined the possibility of reducing ignition risk by changing pick shape and the material.
