Objective
The aim of the project is to build up a technically feasible method for fluidised-bed chlorination of steelwork dusts and slurries producing reusable charging substances
- for steel production with recovery of iron and
- for non-ferrous metallurgy for zinc and lead recovery.
This will constitute a visible contribution to
- improving materials recycling in metallurgical production
- transformation of present wastes into residues which can be used in the future
- reducing pollution by preventing harmful substances from being dumped.
The method can be used for wastes from the entire steel production branch including foundries.
The following steps are planned:
- tests with chlorination and wet gas scrubbing of filter dusts of various origins (converter and electrical steelworks) and composition in existing small-scale technical plant fur fluidised bed treatment
- tests for separation and treatment of the process product with an increased concentration of zinc and lead
- drawing up of a technical proposal including pretreatment of the dusts and subsequent treatment of the process product
- drafting of a utilisation concept on the basis of the technological proposal
- technological trials in small-scale technical plant, including use of the two processed products
- drafting of a utilisation concept on the basis of the technological proposal and the trials
- practical testing of the use of further metallurgical waste (in particular sludges) using this technology
- preparation of a project study for industrial-scale implementation
- technical and economic assessment of the overall project.
