Objective
- To carry out a detailed fault tree analysis of the probabilities of the primary events leading to a firedamp explosion.
- Once the above aim has been accomplished, it will be possible to make a quantitative comparison of the relative importance of the various causes. This will permit a coherent overall analysis of the firedamp explosion occurrence and the various approaches to avoiding it.
The findings of this overall analysis can be used in safety legislation, mines inspection, safety etc.
The order of tasks is as follows.
- Use will be made of the findings of research carried out at AITEMIN to represent the various possible routes for occurrence of firedamp explosions in mines by means of fault trees. It will thus be possible to identify the primary events.
- A review will be carried out of existing experience, information and bibliographies in the mining industry and others (nuclear power, chemical industry, etc) to make initial assessments of the probability of the primary events.
- This will be supplemented with probabilistic information obtained by studying real cases in mines.
- Qualitative and quantitative conclusions will be drawn from the results obtained.
