Longitudinal study of the development of musculoskeletal pathologies of the wrist and hand caused by work-related stresses

Objective

The functional characteristics of the wrist and hand will be monitored as a function of the nature of the risks at the workstation.

The study sampled will consist of workers employed in tasks which have in the past given rise to musculoskeletal problems of the upper limbs.

METHODS AND MEANS BY WHICH THE AIMS ARE TO BE ACHIEVED

The members of the sample group will complete an epidemiological questionnaire and undergo a brief clinical examination in order to determine the nature, seriousness and frequency of disorders.

The study will cover:

1 maximum angulations in flexion, extension, radial and ulnar displacement;
2 maximum voluntary effort.

Measurements will also be taken of:

1 the speed of nerve, motor and sensor conduction in the median and ulnar nerves of both hands;
2 the tactile sensitivity thresholds.

Each year, parameters will be measured for representative tasks at specific workstations.
