Objective
This project investigated the capability of Ada to formulate efficient programs and algorithms for vector computers for large scientific applications; it also considered how Ada compilers should be constructed in order to translate such programs into highly parallel machine code.
Communication problems between the partners and lack of relevant expertise in some of the partners gave rise to severe problems. Unable to improve the situation, in early 1987 the Commission terminated the contract between the Commission and three of the four partners while Siemens was given the opportunity to complete their part of the work.
The deliverables of this project are concentrating on the techniques that should be used to construct an Ada compiler for a vector processor, the techniques to generate and optimise code for such a vector processor, and the additional requirements imposed on the programming environment to allow construction and debugging of Ada programs for such machines.
