Objective
RUMS aims to provide SMEs with computer-based tools designed to assist decision-making in the following domains:
- production planning
- definition of manufacturing and purchasing budgets, including uncertainty of forecasts
- evaluation of alternative production processes.
In order to meet SMEs' needs, the project will adopt a rule-based representation of the production process which allows the user to deal with minimal quantities of data, as well as properly defining the production model of the enterprise by navigating between the design and planning application contexts.
The representation model will be tested by the development of a number of autonomous software modules. The software modules will interface with commercial packages, and these will be validated within a significant sample of SMEs. This is considered to be the first step towards exploitation of the representation module which will be developed under RUMS.
