Day-to-Day Resource Management Systems

Exploitable results

For transport companies, particularly airlines, success of operation is largely dependent on the planning of crew and equipment allocations to all trip activities. DAYSY is an efficient system dedicated to particular real time task/resource areas, addressing particularly the following requirements: smooth integration/coupling with other company systems in operations IT; integration of the crew management and the equipment management; scaling of the system to support the company grow-up; user process based on groupware and cooperation; rich graphical interface for mirroring the user paper board; what-if analysis and simulation, since elaboration of solutions may be complex; automatic and optimized tool for decision making support. DAYSY is packaged in 2 levels for implementation to customers: The reusable tool-boxes framework: supports all standard functions for real time data management, client/server architecture, task/resource links tracking, coverage controls, graphical design and presentation, simulation. These toolboxes are useful for setting up customized applications at low cost and risk, based on proven kernel and utilities. The integrated generic system: implements higher modules over the standard framework, adaptable to customer specific features, such as parameters, data or graphical layout details, company rules or automatic heuristics. This system is composed of a main client/server system, including also: the Rule Compiler module with a rule language for checking regulations designed independently by each customer; the Automatic Rescheduler, based on constraint programming technology, for automatic and optimised resolution of disruptions, depending on company constraints, heuristics and costs criteria. First deployed at a major airline, DAYSY has shrunk the user process by providing an integrated and coordinated viewing, tracking and repairing of crew and aircraft schedules, with impressive performances regarding the amount and complexity of data. Because it implements standard data models and task/resource mechanisms, installing DAYSY at a new customer requires few adaptaions.
