Project description
Innovative solution for intraoperative accidents
The IBSEN FET project developed an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) software based on unsupervised machine learning algorithms. The software reads the behaviour of individuals and is adapted for automated prevention and correction of high-risk surgical actions. The EU-funded BESAFE project will work on the results of IBSEN FET, aiming to reduce intraoperative casualties and surgery costs through a clinical decision support software provided with AI. The project will advance a detailed business plan, demonstrate the use of AI IBSEN algorithms that recognise models of behaviour, and generate a well-studied investable opportunity for venture capital.
Objective
BESAFE seeks to support the exploitation of the results from the IBSEN FET project and capture a market opportunity as well as address a poignant societal need, the reduction of intra-operative accidents and surgery costs by means of clinical decision support software.
IBSEN has led to the development of a general-purpose novel artificial intelligence tool based on unsupervised machine learning algorithms. The software learns from the behaviour of individuals and their outcomes. It can be adapted for automated early detection and correction of high-risk actions by members of surgical teams.
The coordinator of the BESAFE consortium, Afferent Technologies, has expertise in prevention of accidental surgical nerve-damage, a costly and dramatic event, by means of electrophysiological technology. The BESAFE software, endowed with artificial intelligence from the ISEB project, has the potential for a quantum leap in the market.
The key deliverables of BESAFE are a) the business plan, with detailed financials and market analysis, as well as an estimate of remaining technical milestones, as required to progress from the IBSEN deliverables to the final certifiable software, b) a demonstration of the use of the Artificial Intelligence IBSEN algorithms to recognise patterns of behaviour (high risk vs low risk) by analysis of machine-user interaction patterns.
The final aim of BESAFE is to produce a well-studied investable opportunity for Venture Capital coinciding with an increased interest of these stakeholders in the Artificial Intelligence and Medical Technology spaces.
