Objective
Reducing of pollution
Introduction of non contamination public transport
Integration of renewable energy for a new solar traffic concept
Reducing of the invidual traffic.
In 1986 the town of Segovia was declared patrimony of the Humanity by UNESCO. The mediaeval centre, with the public administration buildings and most of the commerce activities has supported a strong traffic, affecting old city life and its buildings of high historic value. The situation has become worse since the prohibition of traffic circulation below the arches of the Roman Aqueduct, which divides the city. Therefore, we present a project trying to solve this important problem, which goals are:
1. Improving the planning of the public transport electric connecting the old and the new city, which are divided by the Aqueduct. Only the public transport non contaminating would be allowed to cross below the Roman Aqueduct.
2. The reduction of private traffic and the interchange of experiences with similar projects in the EEC.
3. The introduction of micro-buses running on electricty (by photo-voltaic energy) for public transport, and in return for that we have a cooperation with the Spanish enterprise IVECO-PEGAO. Also we will cooperate with a project in Berlin and Postdam (Germany - they have their own LIFE project). To achieve these goals, the project is based upon three stages:
1. A study on the introduction of electricity-powered micro-buses for public transport and its effect on the environment and the economy.
2. The creation of a centre for the supply of batteries and a photo-voltaic plant necessary to start the testing/experimental stage.
3. Evaluation of experiences and broadcasting.
