Managing the environment safety-tools for responsible organisations

Objective

OBJECTIVES
The environmental side of production systems is becoming a key issue for companies facing a number of factors: tightening up of legislation governing environmental standards with a consequential rise in the cost for the company of negative effects on the environment, consumer preference for companies which respect the environment, promoting the Total Quality philosophy, etc. But in the majority of cases, companies do not have the skills needed to face new challenges of this kind. The aim of this project is to offer companies help in the form of a tool designed to assess and manage their specific impact on the environment.

ACTIVITIES
A team of specialists will design a number of training and information tools relating to the environmental aspect of production, based on what is already there and on an in-depth analysis of the problem. A tool for evaluating environmental impact and risks for the company will be developed initially. A guide to the setting up of systems for control of the impact on the environment and conformity of the production process will then be designed and the key skills which need to be developed within the company will be identified. Together, the partners will develop an informative document explaining the reasons why improvements are needed in this area and the medium and long term benefits for the company. Finally, studies will be produced for various case scenarios.

PRODUCTS
Production of an information document on the problems, a tool for evaluating the company's environmental impact and a guide to the installation of a system for controlling the production process and bringing it into line with legislation, designed for the company's internal trainers and assistants (one CD-ROM and one manual, together with case studies).
