The meat industry: improvement and harmonisation of qualifications in southern European SMEs

Objective

OBJECTIVES
Changes in eating habits, the rise of new modes of distribution and the establishment of European standards for hygiene and control of environmental problems mean it is now essential for industrial and commercial companies in the meat sector to work together and adopt new working techniques. This situation has two results from the point of view of employment. Firstly, new skills need to be envisaged to face new technological imperatives and the need for quality control. Secondly, recruitment difficulties, related to a shortage of certain qualifications, need to be addressed in SMEs in southern Europe. To meet these new challenges, the partners aim to contribute to the adaptation and restructuring of the training offered, by analysing qualification needs in the meat sector, harmonising the content and methods of training in Europe, producing training modules suited to changes in the sector and developing transnational exchange programmes.

ACTIVITIES
The partners will start by comparing the methods and conclusions relating to qualification needs in the sector in the different partner countries of the project and analyse them in terms of the needs of business. They will then compare the teaching content and methods of training paths linked to key jobs translating into the emergence of new qualifications. And on the basis of the results of these two pieces of research, they will create training modules based on common evaluation and validation methods and responding to the new qualification needs. Furthermore, a harmonisation of methods and content of existing training will be implemented.

PRODUCTS
Production of training modules which address the new qualification needs in the meat sector. Eventually, this project will result in the development of transnational exchange programmes which form the basis of future Community training paths.
