Objective
In recent years there has been an increasing awareness of identities in the European Union, notably at regional and local level. As a result, the rural heritage has become a local development issue. National heritage sites and conservation areas are evidence of this phenomenon. This placement programme, which is known by the French acronym VALEUR (VALorisation des patrimoines en EURope), will provide the basis for the development of a distance learning package for "cultural mediators" working in heritage and conservation.
Specialised material and translations will be made available to students through the electronic campus of the French National Distance Learning Centre. Tutoring and placement management will be organised on a personal one-to-one basis. A charter for enhancing the potential of Europe's heritage will be produced, containing the minimum tasks and competences required of cultural mediators (cultural management, ethnology, restoration techniques, ecological site management). A data base on training available in this area will also be produced, together with a multilingual glossary of technical and professional terms.
Impact
This European certificate will provide people working in this sector with the means to develop their specialisations and ultimately their careers.
