Skill mapping and profiling

Objective

An individual's key abilities and social skills are today considered of great importance in employers' criteria for employability. Validation methods for these transversal skills are practically non-existent or strongly context-dependent. The MAPS project intends to fill this gap by setting up a computerised validation system for key skills. These transversal skills are linked to the individual's personality and can be transferred to varying situations. Defining and recognising these skills responds to a need to create confidence, enhance self-esteem and guide individuals; and to further organisational flexibility and individual mobility.

Career guidance professionals and experts on validation methods will draw up lists of transversal skills and appropriate micro-tests. An interactive system will then contextualise this data and encourage its use for people seeking employment. A dynamic, evolving map system will provide access to a range of micro-tests. On entering the system, individuals will be able to indicate which skills they think they possess. To determine these, the user will have access to an interactive skills-mapping system. Individuals then select one series of skills they believe they have and choose the context in which they would like to be evaluated (sector of activity, professional sector, etc.). They are offered micro-tests based on self-evaluation and choice of context. To encourage progress through the system, other micro-tests are then suggested according to the answers given. The software then evaluates the validated skills. This interactive system for visualising and attributing transversal skills will be tested and evaluated on the basis of social practice and scientific expertise.

Impact
Enhancement of individual self-esteem through the recognition and use of key skills, as well as improving the choice of training courses and access to employment for the individuals concerned.
