Co-operative learning and women

Objective

More and more co-ops are founded by women, particularly since the rise in unemployment. Co-operative enterprise is an organisational form well suited for women as it relies highly on personal relations. Women co-operative members often have the professional skills but not the management skills needed to run a business. These include: business strategy and planning; capital and finance; and marketing.

The overall objective of the project is therefore to adapt and develop existing management training systems to the needs of co-operative enterprises run by women. The project will include four phases:
- analysis of training needs and research into existing training provision;
- design of a plan for a common training system, adapted to the specific conditions of each partner;
- pilot training programmes organised and evaluated by the partners in each country;
- dissemination within the partner organisations and to networks of women's co-operatives and small businesses.

Impact
The project outcomes will help women strengthen their position in the labour market and in the economy as a whole.
