Objective
Environmental pressures are severe for small businesses. They have real problems in dealing with rapidly changing environmental legislation and the increasing costs of waste disposal, energy and raw materials. Their needs do not in general lie in the field of advanced technology but in awareness of the issues and operational procedures. This project aims to help SMEs to start building up their own environmental management system.
The main objectives are as follows:
- to identify SMEs' needs in target sectors with regard to waste and raw material costs;
- to develop a common framework and methodology for evaluating SMEs' efficiency in waste management;
- to produce a relevant training module in waste management for SMEs (in electronic and paper version).
Impact
The main impact of the training developed by the project will be savings in resources and costs through waste reduction. The SME partners participating in the testing of the module will benefit directly through the training.
