Objective
The toolmaking industry is currently undergoing rapid technological change and the industrial institutions responsible for apprenticeship training are finding it increasingly difficult to integrate new training requirements into current curricula. This has created divergence between the requirements of industry and the courses on offer to employees. This pilot project will develop a series of eight intensive management and technical training courses with the aim of bridging the gap between training organisations and the toolmaking sector.
The partners will achieve this by examining the requirements of industry through an analysis of training needs, preparing a prioritised list of required courses, developing a curriculum for those courses and evaluating the courses. Input from non-project participants will be encouraged by holding workshops and disseminating information via newsletters. The courses will make full use of distance learning techniques to ensure that remotely located organisations can participate.
Impact
The courses will contribute to the development of the sector and hence the economic success of regions where these industries are concentrated. It will facilitate the exploitation of new technologies and processes, making a significant impact on the future growth and profitability of the toolmaking industry.
