Training to improve the matching of supply and demand for industrial textiles - added value for the European textiles sector

Obiettivo

Industrial textiles have a high level of added value and are a potential development sector for the European Union. But the industry is confronted with more and more norms, both in terms of production and use. There are often misunderstandings between manufacturers and clients and this complicates the drafting of instructions for new products.

This pilot project will provide textiles companies and their clients with the tools they need to understand their respective norms. Efforts will be made to target SMEs with a view to improving their market access. The project will focus on protective and safety garments and will endeavour to render Directives n° 89/686 (on their manufacture) and n° 89/656 (on their use) more understandable and compatible. A technical survey of a representative sample of companies will facilitate the identification of needs. A training module will then be developed. This approach will then be applied to other parts of the industry, such as medical textiles. The module will be produced in a self-training format. It will contain a database for SME managers, safety officers, work inspectors and purchasing departments. It will also provide a model for using the same process in other sectors. The project results will be made public on the Internet.

Impact
The project will have a cumulative impact on the industrial textiles sector as a whole insofar as it will promote greater mutual understanding between manufacturers and users.
