Multimedia learning and information systems in CVT: A European train-the-trainer concept

Objective

Within the context of lifelong learning processes, multimedia learning and information systems provide a wide variety of possibilities for applying modern, adult-oriented pedagogics and work organisation methods that motivate the learning process. However, a large number of managerial personnel and trainers still experience difficulty in taking advantage of this new potential in a meaningful manner. The planned and well thought-out implementation of multimedia systems presupposes corresponding know-how in structuring and organising appropriate learning environments. The aim of this project is to adapt, test and transfer an innovative seminar concept for qualifying educational personnel in applying multimedia learning systems in the continuing training process.

Besides promoting the use of multimedia in continuing training, the seminar concept will also involve integrating new interactive media into practically-oriented and efficient training concepts, as well as equipping workplaces with multimedia information and learning systems. Following selection and adaptation of the train-the-trainer concept and seminar content, the project partners will then carry out a review and adjustment process, after which the seminars will be tested in the partner countries (country-specific pilot seminars). It is also intended, in parallel, to consolidate an innovative transnational educational network between Germany, Finland and the Netherlands. The result of the project will be a tested seminar design (concept, curriculum, materials, etc.) that can be implemented in the partner countries. The products will comprise a seminar concept, participants' files (as self-learning material) and reference files with overheads and didactic aids, directions for the training centre (advertising, technique, organisation), a CD-Rom with more than 20 example programs, as well as a database containing a list of multimedia producers, suppliers and service providers.

Impact
The project promotes the effective use of multimedia learning systems in the vocational education process. Improving the structure and organisation of learning environments is a criterion that has a considerable influence on the dissemination and application of multimedia learning programs.
