Testing and analysing a transnational business management curriculum for master tradesman training

Objective

The partners work in the vocational training sector in the Maas-Rhine Euregio and are, during the course of their day-to-day activities, confronted with the situation that a not inconsiderable number of the people they have trained are forced to apply for jobs on the transnational labour market. In view of this, the differences in vocational training qualifications and the lack of their transparency and recognition represent significant obstacles that stand in the way of an open Europe. To counter this problem, the initiative was taken to run a transnational master tradesman's course for interior decorators in the Maas-Rhine Euregio which is open to participants from Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.

Participants can obtain a master tradesman diploma for the three regions involved on the basis of a single examination. The course is divided into four modules: a specialist practical section, a specialist theory section, business management, and employment education theory. Sections 3 and 4 are the same for all tradesmen and craftsmen regardless of the vocational area selected. The course participants have already finished sections 1, 2 and 4 and have completed the relevant examinations to a great extent. The current Leonardo project promotes the testing of a joint outline plan (programme) drawn up in advance for the business management section.

Impact
The outline plan is to be reviewed during the evaluation of the course and the subsequent joint master tradesman's examination and the course documentation adapted to transnational level so as to create favourable conditions for a possible re-issuing of these transnational programmes.
