Development and innovation of nursing methods in Europe

Objective

Nursing professions and training organisations in the partner countries have identified the need to develop training for skills required between the European SECOC nursing qualification levels 4 and 5, notably concerning : scientifically developed methods for making decisions; European standards for diagnoses and interventions; and the delegation of tasks. Such training would be of great use in primary nursing and management situations.

The partners will test and refine a measurement instrument (Steinbusch 1997) with a view to developing the training programme. Knowledge and skills will be processed into products that are suitable for professional use. The training will focus on nursing diagnosis, outcomes/interventions, and the management of nursing situations. Teachers and practice supervisors will, in turn, be trained to deliver the training material.

The project will result in international training programmes and methods for use in full-time nursing education and on-the-job practise situations. Strategies for organising the training will also be developed.

Impact
The project will promote international harmony within Europe with respect to skills that are of major importance to the performance of primary nursing and nursing management.
