Objective
The business sector will have to deal with the single currency from the first day of monetary union. This process will probably involve at least 170 million people in an economic area as big as the USA. The challenge is immediate. The entire financial community and many businesses will work in Euro from 1 January 1999 and they will have to start preparing immediately. European SMEs will have particular problems in adapting to the Euro. They have limited access to financial resources and personnel will need to be trained. This project will develop such training for European SMEs in the metal and mechanical engineering sectors.
The partners will begin their cooperation with an analysis of the training needs of the metal and mechanical companies with regard to the introduction of the single currency. They will then design, develop and test relevant training methodologies and content. The main products will be a multimedia training tool on CD-ROM format and a skill needs forecasting model for use by SMEs themselves. The beneficiaries of the project will be employees and managers in European metal and mechanical engineering businesses (in particular those working in the legal department ) who are directly involved in the change to the Euro.
Impact
The project will help metal and mechanical engineering SMEs prepare for the challenges of the European single currency, and ensure that the passage is a smooth one.
