Objective
Public customs authorities need to improve the efficiency of their services, especially with regard to dissemination of information on changes in administrative procedures. Clearer and standardised procedures can help small and medium-sized enterprises deal effectively with administrative requirements and, in doing so, reduce their costs. The main objective of this project is therefore to develop a continuing vocational training package on international trade regulations and customs duties for import and export experts working in public customs administrations and small and medium-sized companies. The idea is to create multimedia training modules to simplify administrative procedures and to encourage trade in the single market.
To achieve the above, the partners will use a new technology application, Web Based Training (WBT), which integrates text with hyperlinks, and graphics with interactive tests. This will be designed to enable SME import and export experts to access customs information services. A virtual 'chat room' will also make it possible for them to participate directly in training. Interactive assessment tests will also be built into the training modules. These will be organised into single information units so that learners can access a specific subject without having to go through the whole course. In addition to this, an e-mail service will provide users with a means for exchanging experiences with other learners and for making suggestions for improvements.
Impact
The training system developed by this project will help firms to improve the planning and organisation of trading activities. As a consequence, goods transport will be made faster and delivery costs reduced.
