Objective
European directives on minimum health and safety requirements for temporary and mobile construction sites have led to new occupational functions, such as safety co-ordinator. This person is present from the start of the project to the final phase of post-construction maintenance. The application of new safety measures demands that the various agents responsible for intervening in each of the phases of construction have new vocational abilities. This pilot project intends to create a European training programme for safety in the building sector and to define conditions for its validation. It will also look at achieving recognition of the vocational skills acquired by the participants who choose to follow this training programme.
FOCUS involves two phases : analysing national legislation, existing safety training and the validation of existing training and technical material; and creating a training programme on safety and health in the building sector, a glossary on relevant terminology and an experimental project on construction sites in a European scope.
Partners will be responsible for distributing the ensuing results and tools. This will be done through the creation of an Internet site, during national seminars and during a European seminar, which will be organised at the end of the project.
Impact
FOCUS will encourage the free movement within Europe of professionals in the building sector.
