Aquaculture short course programme

Objective

Aquaculture is a global industry which is growing at a rate of approximately 12-15% each year. The demand for higher yield and growth in aquaculture has catalysed a rapid evolution in intensive practices. As the sector experiences changes and advances, so a complementary demand for information of the most up-to-date RTD results, methodologies, technologies, and innovations has arisen. The current project responds to direct industry feedback and identified needs, and provides a solution to the current demand for up-to-the-minute information.

The project aims to transfer required information to a wide audience across the European aquaculture sector, particularly identifying SMEs as prime beneficiaries of the results. Other beneficiaries include university staff, trainers, research experts and students who will both participate in, and contribute to, the development of the programme.

The partners will develop seven intensive short training programmes on : the design and operation of recirculation systems; primary processing of fish products; fish farm management; marketing; fish vaccination; scallop production; and hygiene/cleaning procedures. Materials produced and results obtained from this programme will be widely disseminated across the European aquaculture sector.

Impact
The project will develop key/core competencies and multidisciplinary skills in aquaculture SMEs.
