Objective
For several years, EU growth and investment has not led to increased employment in traditional economic sectors such as industry and agriculture. However, the voluntary sector is undergoing rapid expansion. Non-profit organisations are still in an early stage of development. They have a specific organisational and management structure and require specific skills of the people that work for them.
The objective of this project is to develop training for non-profit managers that will give them an occupational profile that is equivalent to that of a general manager of a small or medium-sized business. The training will also be targeted at unemployed young people wanting to work in this sector.
There will be four operational stages. The first will involve an examination of the role of non-profit managers in the project's partner organisations. The output will be a detailed hard copy and floppy disk report containing a full job description. The second stage will entail a similar analysis of a more extensive sample of non-profit organisations. The output will be a detailed report, including proposals for an education/training programme for non-profit managers. This will be piloted in a third stage. During the last stage, the results of the project will be published and disseminated. 1000 copies of a brochure will be sent out to non-profit organisations and education managers and a special web site will be created.
Impact
The project will up-grade the skills of non-profit managers and lead to an increase in the status and profile of this category of worker.
