Objective
The health and social care sector is an increasing area of employment. Within it, support workers such as porters, cleaners, auxiliaries, and care assistants comprise up to 35% of the workforce in the acute sector and higher levels in other areas of the care sector. Traditionally they have had limited access to training and personal development.
The principal aims of the project are to create a learning tool which will enable support workers who have no qualifications to identify their existing skills deficit, and to provide a framework within which they can acquire core skills to facilitate their career progression within the sector.
Learning modules will be developed in a multimedia format to reflect different modes of delivery, i.e. open learning or through individual or group study programmes. Portfolio building and workplace assessment will form a key part of the individuals' development programme in the initial phase. It is also envisaged that the training will be accredited by a relevant body in each partner country, and that it will facilitate progression within the vocational and academic qualifications structures.
Impact
This project will develop a framework in which individuals can acquire confidence and competence in a range of key skills in the health care sector.
