Objective
The fact that Austria has a lower level of youth unemployment than many other EU countries is mainly attributable to the fact that about 50% of all young people undergo initial vocational training under the dual education system. The advantages of the dual system are obvious; but academic investigation of the target group and its vocational training, and experience from the Challenge Europe project, show that this vocational training must be adapted to social change.
The primary aim of the SKYLINE project is to develop and test innovative, future-oriented curricula and models for the vocational training of young people, in collaboration with national and international partners. Through adaptation and the transfer ofresults, these new models should contribute to the expansion and improvement of vocational training systems and measures in the partner countries, and also, by providing the target group with additional knowledge and abilities, open up to it better vocational opportunities as regards mobility, competitiveness, and career, so minimising the threat of unemployment. The imparting and expanding of important competencies will foster personality development.
Impact
By supplementing the existing systems of training and continuing education, this project aims to create a qualification standard for the next generation of skilled labour. This will safeguard the quality-related locational advantages of the participating economic regions in the European Union and thus counter unemployment.
