Objective
Long term prisoners frequently suffer economic isolation when they return to civilian life because the experience, skills and qualifications they have are no longer relevant to the needs of the market. This project aims to improve access to the job market for this and other disadvantaged groups by developing skills-based multimedia open and distance learning modules in a life-long education perspective.
The partner organisations will provide information that will be worked into programme modules in specific training areas such as entrepreneurship, foreign languages, economics, information technology and marketing. The modules will include activities designed to develop core skills and basic knowledge in these areas. They will be tested in the partner countries and adapted, where necessary, to meet user needs. The multimedia based programmes will support different pedagogical approaches - guided tuition, self-study, distance learning. In self study, individuals will be able to select the training areas they are interested in and study in their own time and at their own pace. Materials will be available in printed form and via the internet, and be printed in English and Danish.
Impact
The project will encourage long-term prisoners to build up their social confidence, strengthen their motivation and acquire skills and knowledge which will enhance their employment prospects on release. By the same token, it will contribute to reducing the social cost of exclusion.
