Employment-insertion-skills: cultural trades

Objective

Professionals in the cultural sector must constantly adapt to new needs which are the result of the development and fluctuations of cultural policies; the integration of a cultural dimension into certain public policies; and the increase in transnational exchanges in this sector. This pilot project aims to create a European forum on the Internet, encouraging interactive meetings between professionals in the cultural sector, and young graduates and trainers specialised in cultural engineering.

CORTEX uses the software programme "Gingo" created on the basis of a tree-structured system of knowledge. This system is made up of databases which hold the components of the diplomas corresponding to the skills in question. It organises, synthesises, synchronises and creates a hierarchy of complex data such as academic skills acquired during a training course, individual skills developed outside of training degree courses and the specific skills sought by employers.

In addition to this basic system, CORTEX will also offer several other complementary databases. One will include all the information concerning cultural training; another will propose a list of the different organisations likely to offer cultural jobs, while yet another will specialise in placements, facilitating the movement of students between possible host areas. Finally, a memory database will cover all the research projects undertaken by students.

Impact
CORTEX will help employers to tailor their job offers and will assist job-seekers in enhancing the value of combining unusual skills.
