Objective
The central idea of this project is to understand how the on-going changes in working life affect learning, teaching and educational planning, and how these changes can be integrated into workplace learning models in commercial education. Such an understanding is a prerequisite to the development of meaningful vocational training programmes. In cooperation with industry, this project proposes to contribute to thinking on this subject.
Through questionnaires, interviews and documentation analysis, partners will seek to identify the types of challenge the development of working life have on the learning/teaching process. The information will be used to develop a 'transformational' learning approach, and to construct models for planning, organising, implementing and evaluating workplace learning. Related modules aimed at improving the guidance and counselling skills of workplace tutors and college teachers will be created. Programmes for students, teachers and tutors will be designed for use in distance learning and semi-autonomous/flexible learning situations. Evaluation will be carried out at each stage of the project through the comparison of actual and expected results, and also by third party testing of models, modules and related material.
Impact
The project will lead to closer industry/education cooperation, enhanced workplace learning schemes, and improved organisation of workplace learning as firms and educational establishments are better able to respond to changes in working life.
