Objective
The objective of this survey and analysis project is the prevention of the social exclusion of young people who have been in prison. Such people need careful training and suitable skills to help them to (re-)enter the labour market when they come out of prison.
The study will review current training provision for young offenders in Italy, Spain, Austria, and the United Kingdom. The study will look first into the social, cultural and living conditions of young offenders in each country, and then undertake an analysis of their skill and training needs. The partners will then establish a functional model and an operational plan to promote relevant vocational training activities. The model and plan will be adapted to the specific needs of other categories of workers at risk of being marginalised, such as unskilled workers who have lost their jobs and former drug addicts.
The products will include reports on local initiatives, national reports and a final transnational report. These will be disseminated at national and international level through seminars and meetings with people involved in the vocational training and rehabilitation young offenders.
Impact
The results of this survey and analysis project will raise awareness about the crucial need to provide training for young offenders and improve co-ordination of policies and actions.
