Objective
Four years ago, the UK National Association of Paper Merchants (NAPM) established the Institute of Paper to provide initial and on-going training for the industry in its widest sense. The Institute's foundation paper training course holds a unique position amongst member states. The aim of this project is to extend the scope of this course and transfer its content to other media to facilitate distance learning. It is intended that the use of latest communication technology will result in a wholly new approach to the education of paper industry staff.
The partners will explore further radical improvements to the existing Institute foundation course to incorporate best joint training practice/standards and implement improvements. They will then establish a new competence-based foundation course as the standard training package for newcomers to the distribution industry within participant countries and others within the European Union. In order to make the course readily transferable a short version of the UK manual and partners' materials will be translated into the languages of partner countries. The courses will cover merchanting, paper making, printing and packaging and conversion.
Impact
The outputs of this project will give newcomers to the industry the essential background to enable them to be at ease and effective in their employment at an early stage.
