Objetivo
To survey a sample of 7 European airports and investigate the range of current and future airport air-side and land-side capacity problems and solutions which are under consideration by European airports. Particular attention being focused on advanced surface movement guidance and control systems, land-side security measures and procedures for disabled passengers. The survey will lead to the definition of scenarios which characterise European airport operations.
To review commercially available airport and general simulation software packages and, from the range of airport simulation models which are licensed to consortium members, and others which are commercially available, select the best simulation tools to address the proposed work.
To develop a specification of requirements for the integrated land-side and air-side simulation.
To set-up, develop, integrate and validate the selected simulation models of airport air-side and land-side operations for investigating and optimising airport capacity in the representative operational scenarios.
To apply the integrated simulation model to quantify capacity enhancements associated with selected airport procedures, traffic management organisation and airport configurations. The new procedures, traffic management organisation and airport configurations which are to be included will be selected after a survey of techniques which have potential application before the year 2005.
To develop a high level, rapid running summary simulation, using a system dynamics package and calibrated from the primary simulation. This simulation to be used for forward-looking airport planning purposes.
