Objective The project will investigate complementary aspects of the development of a live attenuated vaccine against an important salmonoid disease in the EU countries: furunculosis. This includes: (1) studies on cellular and humeral immunity developed in vaccinated fish towards both native A. salmonicida and vaccine strain; (2) preparation of vaccine material; (3) determination of vaccine optimum dose frequency and immunity duration; and (4) assessment of bacteria fate after vaccination and shedding of bacteria into seawater.
