AN AROMATIC DEPENDENT MUTANT OF AEROMONAS SALMONICIDA AS A LIVE VACCINE FOR FURUNCULOSIS IN SALMONID FISH. STUDIES ON THE IMMUNE RESPONSE OF VACCINATED FISH AND ON THE FATE OF BACTERIA AFTER VACCINATION, IN THE HOST AND IN THE ENVIRONMENT

Objective

The project will investigate complementary aspects of the development of a live attenuated vaccine against an important salmonoid disease in the EU countries: furunculosis. This includes:

(1) studies on cellular and humeral immunity developed in vaccinated fish towards both native A. salmonicida and vaccine strain;
(2) preparation of vaccine material;
(3) determination of vaccine optimum dose frequency and immunity duration; and
(4) assessment of bacteria fate after vaccination and shedding of bacteria into seawater.
