IMMOBILIZATION OF SOIL NITROGEN BY DECOMPOSING PLANT RESIDUES AND THE POTENTIAL OF THE FORMS OF THE IMMOBILIZED NITROGEN FOR REMINERALIZATION

Objective

The project aims:

- to determine the location and chemical forms of soil nitrogen assimilated by microorganisms and immobilized in organic forms during the
decomposition of plant residues under contrasting soil and climatic conditions;
- to establish the potential for remineralization of the immobilized nitrogen in different residues;
- to develop a mathematical model of the mineralization-immobilization balance that will relate to different cropping practices.
