Objective
The project aims to study the role of vascular-arbuscular mycorrhizae in biological control of fungal diseases in tomato and Prunus as model plant systems and Phytophtora as target organisms.
The approach is both cellular and molecular level, by which information on changes in plant root morphology, fungal and plant gene expression will be collected.
The main tasks are :
- Identifying the impact of VA mycorrhiza-induced changes to root system architecture, and meristematic and nuclear activities on pathogen resistance.
- Cellular characterization of symbiotic/pathogenic fungal interactions in roots.
- Identification of genes and gene expression involved in root protection by VA mycorrhiza.
