Objetivo
The overall objective of this project is to develop a fundamental understanding of the relationship between the structure and catalytic properties of multicomponent selective oxidation catalysts, specifically for the partial oxidation of ethane, propane, butane and pentane. The goals are:- to identify novel routes for the partial oxidation of ethane to ethene and to acetic acid; the partial oxidation of propane to propene; the partial oxidation of butane to maleic anhydride;the partial oxidation of pentane to phthalic anhydride;- to understand the parameters which determine the selectivity of these optimized catalysts for the synthesis of specific new products for the fine chemicals industry.
The relationship between the structure and catalytic properties of multicomponent selective oxidation catalysts, specifically for the partial oxidation of ethane, propane, butane and pentane has been studied. The research has concentrated on 2 main themes: oxidative dehydrogenation of alkanes and partial oxidation to oxygenates. Collaboration between research groups has resulted in the exchange of catalyst samples and access to specialist techniques. The development of an improved understanding of the parameters which influence the catalytic properties of complex mixed oxides is progressing and the nature of the active centres in some catalysts, for example vanadium phosphates, has been established.
