Mathematics as an industrial resource

Objective

The original network will be enlarged by an additional five Associate Contractors, each linked to one of the five main Contractors. These five Associates have been carefully chosen to ensure that their mathematical and computational skills are relevant to the objectives of the network and are at a high enough level to benefit from the programme. They have also been chosen from countries or regions where there has been, or is likely to be, significant development in technological industry, so that an interaction is feasible.
The role of each of the Associate Contractors is to develop the applications of mathematics to industrial and environmental problems in their own universities using the experience and expertise of the main Contractors. This expertise will be made available through a programme of short discussion meetings on specific topics organised by the Contractors, and designed for all the members of the network including Associates. It is hoped that each Associate from Central or Eastern Europe may host one of these short meetings. In addition, Associates will attend the Workshop With Industry meetings organised by the network, either in the form of Industry Days or Study Group Weeks, and consider the possibility of organising a'similar industrial mathematics workshop in their own country.
