Objective
Objective of the project is to investigate and develop a system of automatic manfuacturing of coolant hose for the automobile industry.
The current way of hose manufacturing is based on hose shaping by hand.
Industrial objectives are the improvement of reproducibility, production speed and flexibility to meet todays standards of quality in the car industry. An overall cost reduction of appr. 10 % per hose is within reach with a succesfull outcome of the project.
A basic hose shaping unit (1 million hoses/year) can save up to ECU 140000/ year. The total yearly demand of coolant hose for the European OE market is appr. 100.000.000 pieces.
The R&D will concentrate at the implementation of the available know how into a viable production system, and has the following focus points: mechanical parts and production system, tooling, automation of the process (system development), process integration, and hose testing.
The programme has to be executed in close cooperation with hose manufacturers and the car industry.
