Objective
DEVELOPMENT OF ROUTINE METHODS FOR CONCENTRATION MEASUREMENTS OF ASBESTOS AND OTHER MINERAL FIBRES IN VIEW OF SOURCE AND AS PREPARATION OF A PROSPECTIVE EPIDEMIOLOGICAL STUDY.
FOR DIFFERENT EMISSIONS SOURCES OF ASBESTOS AND OTHER MINERAL FIBRES IN THE AIR, CORRELATION BETWEEN THE MINERAL FIBRE CONTENT AND THE CONCENTRATION OF EMITTED POLLUTANTS (E.G. CA FOR ASBESTOS CEMENT, PIGMENTS. ORGANIC COMPOUNDS) ARE STUDIED.
THIS STUDY IS DIRECTED TO THE FOLLOWING EMISSION SOUCES: ASBESTOS CEMENT AND FRICTION MATERIALS MANUFACTURING AND WASTE DUMPING, SPRAYED ASBESTOS AND WALLS.
THE MEASURING TECHNIQUE FOR ASBESTOS AND OTHER MINERAL FIBRES IS BASED ON A COMBINED METHOD FOR FIBRE EXAMINATION WITH TEM AND SEM AND FIBRE CHARACTERISATION WITH TEM-SAED AND SEM-EDXA.
THE CALIBRATION OF THE TEM METHOD IS DONE THROUGH THE PREPARATION OF RADIOACTIVE ASBESTOS WITH NEUTRON ACTIVATION OF THE UICC ASBESTOS STANDARDS.
THIS RESEARCH PROGRAMME IS A MATCHING PROJECT WITH THE INSTITUTE SCK/CEN, MOL.
