WASTE WATER ABATEMENT IN THE REFINING OF THREE KINDS OF EDIBLE OILS

Objective

TO SET UP "CLEAN TECHNOLOGY" TO PREVENT THE POLLUTION GENERATED BY THE WASTE WATER COMING FROM THE OIL AGRO ALIMENTARY INDUSTRIES.

FIRST PHASE

INVESTIGATION INTO OPTIMAL CONDITIONS SO AS TO PREVENT/MINIMISE DETERIORATION FORMATION OF UNDESIRABLE COMPOUNDS IN THE OILS, DURING HANDLING AND STORAGE.

SECOND PHASE

INVESTIGATION INTO NEW DEGUMMING TECHNIQUES FOR REMOVING MINOR COMPONENTS HAVING OBVIOUS DETRIMENTAL EFFECTS ON THE QUALITY OF THE OIL.

PARAMETERS IN THIS INVESTIGATION ARE: DEGUMMING AGENTS, DEGUMMING TEMPERATURE, CONTACT TIME, TEMPERATURE FOR MICELLES FORMATION AND SEPARATION BY CENTRIFUGATION OR FILTRATION.

THIRD PHASE

INVESTIGATION INTO NEW BLEACHING TECHNIQUES FOR REMOVING MINOR COMPONENTS, PARTICULARLY PHOSPHATIDES WHICH CANNOT BE REMOVED IN THE DEGUMMING STEP, IRON COMPOUNDS AND OXIDATION PRODUCTS.

PARAMETERS ARE: BLEACHING AGENTS, ADDITION OF ACIDS, TEMPERATURE, CONTACT TIME, WATER CONTENT, PRESSURE AND AIR CONTENT OF BLEACHING AGENTS.

FOURTH PHASE

EXPERIMENTS IN OMITTING ALKALI-DEACIDIFICATION OF THE NEW DEGUMMING AND BLEACHING TECHNIQUES, IN REFINING: SOYABEEN OIL, RAPESEED OIL AND SUNFLOWER OIL.
