Objective We want to assess the ecological effects of an innovative type of groyne used for bank protection on the River Elbe, compared to the conventional type. In co-operation with civil engineers, construction characteristics will be worked out in order to mitigate the adverse effects of bank protection in navigable rivers on invertebrate diversity.
