Objective
The subject of the proposal is the quality of life in the large-scale housing estates built since the end of WWII in cities of Eastern and Western Europe. Many of these estates will be the urban problem areas of the near future, housing large numbers of low-income households, unemployed people and those from ethnic minorities. The proposal is concerned with policies developed in response to problems in these estates and with key aspects of the estates (such as social inclusion, cohesion and sustainability). The study involves strong collaboration with stakeholders and end-users. The focus will be on evaluating, understanding and learning from the experience in different cities in order to facilitate the improvement of policies and actions. The provision of evidence based 'good practice' guidance, new visions and forward-looking scenarios will contribute to more effective policymaking and will benefit European cities.
