Computational mereotopology - a logical approach

Objectif

Research objectives and content
The project will result in a complete axiomatisation of a simplified mereotopology. The elements of this mereotopology will consist of lines and regions bounded by these lines. Thus it will include one- and two-dimensional spatial entities. Although this mereotopology is parsimonious, it is adequate for many computer applications such as Geographical Information Systems. The result of the project is primarily a theoretical one. Nevertheless, the axiomatisation will provide a mean for a wide range of computer applications for qualitative spatial representation and reasoning. Interfacing the methods of topology, model theory, logic and computer science, will ensure the success of the project.
