International dimension of environmental problems - an analysis from game models

Objetivo

Research objectives and content
One of the most serious environmental problems in the next century will probably be the climate change caused by the increased concentration in the atmosphere of greenhouse gases. The aim of this project is to apply the new developments of the game theory (endogenous coalition formation and non co-operative models in the coalition formation) to the climate change negotiations. The current international negotiations having been studied, an appropriate game model will be chosen according to the relevant observed elements. Afterwards, a simulation will be carried through an iterative calculation. The objectives are:
- to characterize the various existing coalitions and the stakes of their union,
- to use different solution concepts,
- to study the links between the intermediate coaltions and how transfers could be carried out,
- to find the stability and the profitability of the agreement, that is of the Treaty on Climate Change which was signed at Rio in 1992. Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact)
During the stay at the host institution, the modelling phase and the simulation will be led. The benefit will stem from elaborating the model and carrying out the simulation in collaboration with Prof. Tulkens, since his approach will be used. Indeed, this approach appears to square with what actually happens in the international negotiations.
