STRUCTURE AND PROPERTIES OF NEW M-Si-Al-O-N OXYNITRIDE GLASS CERAMICS (M=Y,Ln)

Objective

Oxynitride Glass Ceramics are a growing group of new materials which show improved retractoriness and mechanical pertormance compared with the tasks allocated to that laboratory and will he highly trained in the relevant techniques. Also during the three-year project, the fellows will well-estahlished and commercially important oxide glass ceramics. The present project aims to determine crystal structures and measure relevant spend one month in each of the other laboratories, acquiring state-ot-properties for currently uncharacterised new glass-ceramic phases in the-art know-how in the methods used. By the end of the programme, they will have acquired a well-rounded portfolio of expertise in the techniques yttrium and rare earth sialon systems The partners in the consortium are from well-founded research laboratories all with previous experience in the used for the preparation, analysis/characterisation and testing of ceramics.
field of nitrogen ceramics Each partner will contribute expertise in one or two techniques towards the overall objective of structure/property determination These materials have interest as refractory grain-boundary phases in Si3N4-hased ceramics, and also as retractory surface coatings (glazes) and as interface materials in nitride-oxide and nitride-metal joints
