Objectif
The Central Archive for Empirical Social Research (ZA) serves as resource centre for European Social Research by supporting access to nationally and internationally comparative data sets and facilitating empirical analysis on the background of relevant culture specific interpretation knowledge. The ZA holds more than 4000 data sets and data collections. Even though there is no particular restriction, emphasis in gathering data is on topics such as political attitudes, election studies, education, unemployment, leisure and occupation, media and environment. More than 400 data sets from surveys conducted in the former GDR since 1975 were included in the holdings and were processed for secondary analyses.
A series of electoral surveys from emerging democracies in Eastern Europe is added to the holdings in cooperation with the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin. Training in complex analysis methods takes place twice a year in the ZA Spring Seminar for Empirical Social Research and the Autumn Seminar for Quantitative Historical Research. The ZA is the European centre for integrating the EUROBAROMETERs, the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP) and major election studies in Europe (ICORE). Expertise can thus be provided in data management and analysis of complex databases as well as expertise in the area of acquisition, processing, documenting and making available social scientific data.
