Care work in europe: current understandings and future directions

Objective

The subject of this proposal is care work: important across both member and accession states. It has the potential for cross-national exchange of knowledge and best practice; is highly relevant to the economic social and demographic concerns of the EU and has a direct bearing on the welfare, empowerment, lifelong learning and social inclusion of citizens. Its main objective is the generation of a pan-European approach to good quality, responsive employment. The proposal will principally address research task 3, but will also make a substantive contribution to research tasks 2 and 5. The study will use a partnership of five member states and one accession state to investigate care work using a range of both innovative and established research methods: comparative review of statistical and research literature; case studies of occupational groups; and an extensive dissemination programme including evidence of innovative practice, national, and west and east European seminars, and a website.
